Rules of Competitions for the
Rhondda Camera Club.
General Rules
The Rhondda Camera Club shall hold the following competitions in the Club Year. These competitions will be open to members of the Rhondda Camera Club only.
A Monthly Competition to be held in each of the months of September, October, November, January, February, March and April.
A Reprise Competition to be held in May.
For the above competitions, all prints (monochrome or colour) and projected images shall be judged and the points awarded by an independent judge listed by the Welsh Photographic Federation or another suitable person. The Club’s Competition Secretary shall be responsible for appointing the judges.
The dates of every Competition and, whenever possible the appointed Judge will be published in a programme of events to be issued to each member at the start of the Club Year (September) or upon joining the Club. The information will also be posted on the Club website https://rhonddacc.weebly.com
All entries must be submitted to the Competition Secretary at least two weeks before the date of the Competition, or by the dates stated in the Club programme.
No entries will be accepted or deemed eligible if submitted after that date. Only the Competition Secretary or his representative may submit entries to the judge.
Entries MUST be titled. If a member wishes to compete in the club's monthly competition their images may be retained by the club for selection for external competition. If they do not want their images used in external competitions then they forgo the right to enter internal competitions.
Entries should be titled, (no more than 20 Letters to be used in the title) and the member’s Club number clearly marked on each entry. Members names are not allowed to be included for internal competitions
For Club competitions members names should not be shown on the entry but will be indicted for external Battles and competitions. Members numbers will not be shown to the judge on the scoresheet.
Prints may be any size up to a maximum of 50cms x 40cms. Mounts are to be no greater than 50cms x 40cms.
Images entered must be entirely the work of the photographer. Composite images are permitted provided all component images meet this requirement. For the avoidance of doubt, use of images from any other source including, but not limited to, royalty free image banks and clipart are not permitted.
Masking tape should not be used on any mounts.
Projected images should be submitted on a CD, DVD or memory stick, or may be submitted by email to the address given in the Club programme, with the longest side measuring not more than 1600 pixels for landscape images and 1200 pixels for portrait format images. Files must be JPEG’s.
All entries may be trade processed.
All entries to the print competitions should be accompanied by a disc or memory stick, or an emailed copy recording the images for the purpose of projecting them during the Competition, and the club retains a copy for the purpose of selection in external competitions. A failure to submit a digital copy of a print will not render it ineligible, but the Competition Secretary will photograph the print using ambient light, and retain the photographed copy.
Monthly Competitions.
There will be SEVEN Monthly competitions in the club year.
A maximum of three prints and/or projected images may be entered into each competition.
FIVE Monthly Competitions will be Open Competitions with no set subject.
The Monthly Competition in November will be a MONOCHROME IMAGES Competition.
The Monthly Competition in March will be on a SET THEME. The theme will be determined by the Club Committee and published in the Club programme in September, and on the Club website.
The score for each print or projected image will be the number of points awarded by the judge on the competition night.
No image entered as a print will be allowed to be entered into another Monthly Competition as a projected image or vice versa. No image entered as a colour image will be allowed to be re-entered as a monochrome image, or vice versa. If any image is entered in such a way, all points awarded after its first entry into a competition will be declared null and void.
A League Table of scores will be compiled and published in the members section of the website. The League Table will be the total marks awarded for each image in the Competition. There will be a Print League Table, a Projected Images League Table, and a League Table combining both sets of scores. The person with the highest score in each section at the end of the year will be deemed to be “Monthly Print Competition Winner”, or “Projected Images Competition Winner”.
Reprise Competition.
This will be the last competition of the club year.
All members who have entered at least one of the Monthly Competitions will be entitled to enter this competition.
All entries must have been entered in one of the Monthly Competitions in the Club Year.
Up to 6 entries per member will be allowed in any combination of prints or projected images. (i.e. there will be no requirement to enter 3 prints and 3 projected images, any combination of images will be allowed)
Images must be entered in the same format as in the Monthly Competition, and must not have been altered in any way.
The winning print will be named “Rhondda Camera Club Print of the Year” and the winning projected image will be called “Rhondda Camera Club Digital Image of the Year”
STAND ALONE COMPETITIONS.
A series of print competitions. One print entry per member in each of the following categories. You can enter as many categories as you wish. Entries by 20th June
Best Portrait
Best Landscape
Best Wildlife
Best Sport/Action
Best Monochrome
Best Architecture
All work must be new to Club Competitions, but you can use the entry again in a Monthly Competition in the new season.
